Sizzix Bigshot

Hi all

Have any of you used the Bigshot?

I was at our local craft store for a SB course today, and I had the opportunity to use the Bigshot, however I was disappointed.

When using it with the thin dies the instructions said to use the while block and put the dies/paper between the Perspex sheets and then roll through the machine. This we did an on the first time of using the machine one layer of the Perspex cracked (bearing in mind this machine was fresh out of the packaging and had not been used before).

The store owner was not impressed - she had heard rumors that they had problems with the Perspex cracking but was told that this had been sorted.

Helen...I read a similar story somewhere else and many people had problems with the cutting plates of the Sidekick (me included), which were replaced free of charge. When I read that this machine used the perspex cutting plate system like the Sidekick...I had already decided it would have problems!!! You would think that they would have resolved all this with the sidekick debacle!!!! This doesn't create a good impression for this new machine and I think a lot of people will be very unhappy to have parted with something close to £80 in the UK...to be plagued with acrylic plates cracking on first use. I will be sticking with my current die-cutting systems :o)

After seeing the cost of the Bigshot I decided to go with the older Sizzix (the large, heavy red one) as we also used one of these.

I can safely say that I am now hooked!!!!!!!!! - I think I might need to get DH to lock up my credit cards :-)

Helen.....I have a die-cutter that is similar to Sizzix but pink....bought from QVC...I think they got into hot water with Ellison over Patent issues on that one.....LOL I also have the Sidekick and a quickutz...so I am happy with the ones I have for now and don't intend to change. When you consider the price of buying dies I think it would make sense to go with something like the Craft Robo but I wouldn't use it enough to justify £300+.

Hey Marilyn, I would love the Craft Robo but as of now you cannot get it here in the US. I have been waiting patiently to see if the prices of the Wishblade were going to come down in price. As the Craft Robo is suppose to make its depute here in the US this month. We shall see!! ~:o) God Bless, Dorothy in NY

Dorothy......my understanding is that the Craft Robo and the Wishblade are the same animal!!! If I am right here the Wishblade comes in two flavours...a lower priced, more basic machine that you have to purchase software to work with additional fonts and stuff. The more expensive Wishblade machine has necessary software built-in already. The Craft Robo....from what I have read.....seems to be the same as the US advanced machine....no additional purchases needed....except consumables of course! We have no equivalent of the basic in the UK and the word here is that it is a change that the UK users seem to have gotten a better deal! Usually...it is the other way round :o) You can use whatever you have available on your PC, download fonts from the internet...the lot. On one of the boards, where they have a dedicated forum with tips, tutorials, etc. there is a lot of praise from those that have one. Personally, I doubt it would ever benefit me to purchase a toy at £360 because I scrap alone and don't co to crops either :( I would need to do an awful lot of pages and cards to justify the price....LOL I must search it out the next expo I go to though as I would love to see what it is capable off IRL.

I like the machine. I just got replacement pads from Ellison today without requesting them just in case.
