Australian Stitches magazine

My second-favorite sewing magazine (after Threads, of course) is Australian Stitches. I finally had the chance to go back to the store where I originally saw them a number of years ago and bought myself up a bunch more. She still has tons left and people weren't buying them because, she says, her customers are all into machine embroidery and the like -- well, I'm not surprised, seeing as though they tend to have a lot of machine embroidery classes, and my daughter took a Martha Pullen heirloom sewing class through them for her 15th birthday or thereabouts (and boy I about croaked when they were trying to sell $5000 machines, or you could buy an older used one for a bargain $1500 *wilt*) -- so she isn't buying them any more and they are just sitting there. Such a shame... I told her I would post something to rec.crafts.textiles.marketplace for her so that maybe they would sell. She loves the magazine, too, but she doesn't want to throw out a couple dozen of them.

Anyway, I couldn't find my old copies to find where to subscribe to it through the US, and this mag has new subscription information as opposed to a sticky label stuck in the magazine, and so I am going to subscribe to them and get them myself.

What I really loved about the copies I original got a number of years back was that they had this one issue with pages and pages of different fabrics, and two models were draped in fabric on each page, a different style for each page, and it was really fun to look at.

I don't know why I like Australian Stitches and don't like Sew News -- the only thing I can think of is that I got rather disgusted/depressed/wahtever with Sew News's "You can make this $5000 designer ensemble for only $1200" monthly feature, whereas the Australian Stitches articles seem to be more average every-day practical and useful things as opposed to trendy/cutting edge/designer-like garments. Anyway, I couldn't even afford to spend $1200 on a sewing machine, much less one outfit. Or has Sew News changed since I had a one-year subscription to it about 10 years ago? (I tried to get a cheap subscription to them from someone on Ebay whose name was posted on the newsgroup a few years back, but all the Ebay person did was take my money and run. I might subscribe to it if I could find a reliable place to find a cheap subscription, though.

Anyway, I am looking forward to enjoying more virtual everyday sewing. Ahhhhh.....

I enjoy this magazine as well. I had a subscription some time ago which I let lapse (don't remember why) but I found something in each magazine that I liked well enough to save the entire magazine. I also subscribe to Sew News but give it a quick run through, tear out anything of interest and toss the rest.

After saving my Sew News magazines from Way----back when they were the size of half a newspaper, I am just getting around to cutting out articles to keep and tossing the rest. That is, all except the first copy published, I will keep it. I do not remember ever not having a subscription, usually extended annually by one of my children, the last extension takes it up to

2008 at which time, I'll think I'll tell them "No more, please." I've only read Threads for the past 12-15 years and one of them always extends the subscription to it as well. DS, with whom I live, told me he just sent a 3-year renewal last week. But I have never seen Australian Stitches and am most curious about it. Where would I look for it? Emily
