Beverly want's to know," Whatcha sewing?"

Good evening, friends.I have a bunch of unfinished projects going right now, Pillows for one of the DD's, White muslin curtains for one bedroom and 2 bathrooms, A purse for self. We have been away more than home this summer and early fall and will probably begone another 4 or 5 weeks starting a week from Monday. I trying to fit in some sewing between doctor appointments and stupid tests. I'll be taking my machine with me this time and have a quilted runner I want to make while on Cape Cod.I hope to take a 1 day class on converting a sweatshirt into a jacket and doing it up with fabric squares. I thought it would be a fun project to do and mostly a chance to spend some time with other people who sew. Juno

I still haven't unpacked my sewing stuffs from my move!

Hopefully tomorrow I can get my loft-bed assembled (I've been sleeping on the floor for a month) and then I can start setting up the studio again.

I've popped a seam in my navy sweater and I have NO IDEA where my hand-needles are! *twitches*

Still stuggling through the family outfits. I think the only reason I am having so much trouble is that I am EXTREMELY against parents and children dressing alike.

But, since MIL expressed her distaste with our themed pictures, this year is just for her . Original plan was to have them done in black and white, no smile, with color accents on the dresses, vests, and ties. Don't think that will happen, but at least she will get her danged FORMAL picture...hopefully it will keep her happy when she sees next year's (current plan is for Civil War apparel!!).

Juno, did you see the episode of Sewing with Nancy, that showed how to use prairie points down the front of the sweatshirt? I saved it on video, and plan to use it as soon as I finish some projects I'm doing right now. Emily

I am still wrestling with the embroidery of the horse. I have some fabric similar to the weight of the corduroy, and I did one of the Amazing Designs horses in black, navy and dark gray, leaving the white spot on the nose. Now that DS is home for a few days, I'll have him take a good look at it in the sunlight and give me his opinion. If he thinks I need to make any changes, I will, then do it over. I am going to look through OESD's designs online to see what they have, although I didn't have much luck the last time I went through their site. Emily

I had to put the skort project on hold for a couple of days, had lunch/shopping/dinner with both of my DDs yesterday, and DGD is coming over tomorrow so we can sew her Halloween costume. After several years of fairies and princesses, she decided to be a witch. Yeah!

And I am also getting a lot of forms, signs, and applications ready for the Booster club I'm involved with, the season starts in just 14 days. My printer is being cranky, so I have to babysit every print run.

But tomorrow will be fun!

Fantastic, I'm so happy to see that you gave editing the designs a try. I just *knew* you could do it! ;-)

I first found them while looking for a specific breed of dog, and was amazed with the selection and the prices. They have 11 pages of horses, so you could probably find what you're looking for. One caution, the stitching on their designs tends to be very dense. NAYY

I wonder what else went missing in action in the move? You always find three things you put out for the dump as well...

I have a wonderful hair scrunchy in the shape of a purple and black spider... I shall wear that at Halloween!

I know that one! The colour printer took a doze of Cranky Pants and decided not to print yellow for a week, and the lazer printer has given up on anything except single sheet feed! Good job I no longer need to do class size print runs (32 copies) of 10 page essay booklets!

Enjoy! :)

Oh I'm sure they're not"missing" - but all the sewing stuff it still boxed (for lack of anywhere to put it yet) and it's an impressive number of boxes. Looking for a needle in a box-stack, as it were.

Ahhh Wendy. I'm sorry sweetie. When we moved last year, I purposely left unpacking my sewing room for the Very Last Thing. ;) I was afraid I would unpack my sewing room and just wander in there to play, leaving other things unpacked and undone. lol

Good luck getting stuff done. If I were closer, I'd come help. ;)

Seconded! I really like emblibrary.com designs and their customer support is first class! I did find the designs for hummingbirds I bought from them to be so dense it distorted

*denim*. But I was able to reduce the stitch density in some areas and they were beautiful when stitched out.

Also NAYY,

Cool, I shall suggest that to DGD. She freaks at spiders. ;->

I love this printer, but it doesn't run well under Win XP drivers. I think I'll hook it up to the one remaining WIN 98SE box with the native HP drivers installed and see if that helps. It's so frustrating to send 10 sheets to the printer, have it print 5...or 6... or 9, and then start printing one line of garbage at the top of the page and keep spitting them out until I make it stop.

Thanks! We'll be headed to TSWLTH for some glitzy black stuff, and I'm going to use the 50% off coupons to buy a couple of bolts of fusible knit interfacing (white and black), I discovered I'm almost out. Gotta love 50% off. ;->

Dear Emily, Unfortunately I didn't see it. I don't turn on the TV during the day, at home. unless there is something listed that I really want to see. We use the guide printed i the newspaper and the don't do a good job of including good shows on PBS. We don't have any TV hook up on Cape Cod so I can't catch it there. Perhaps once I do the first short out there I can find a good tutorial on making prairie points.I'm not really much of a quilter, yet. Juno

DS said the changes in thread are perfect, I am very glad I wrote them out so I can remember which is which. Tomorrow I'll begin making the bag and jacket with horses to match. Her father told me this morning, she would love the horse design, if it was brown, red or green, but I want it to be as near the correct color as possible. Thanks, Bev, for your push. Emily

Glad you brought this up -- since I got this computer with XP Pro, I have not been able to get my Canon inkjet to work correctly. It will print color, but not black. Yet, when I run the test, it does print the black parts. I downloaded a new (maybe) driver, but it made no difference. I am most distressed about this - the printer is the one with 4 different cartridges - one black, one cyan, one yellow, one magenta -- which I think is a great way to organize. But it won't print right!! *Waaaahhhhhhhhhh*

Luckily, the sewing shows on PBS here in Houston come on Saturday mornings, and I usually begin watching to see what each one is about, and turn it off if I'm not interested. I know Nancy's Notions has a book/DVD on sweatshirt re-styling and the TV program I taped is part of them. I learned to make prairie points several years ago from a Martha Pullen show (I think) when my eldest DGD was about 5-6; she decided she wanted "points" on the bottom of a dress. Her Mom couldn't figure out what she was talking about, but she said, "Gramma'll know." So I made her one dress with them and that was it. I don't get into quilting, although all my children have mentioned I should make one for each of them the grandchildren, too. I told one of them, "Do you realize you are talking 11 quilts, when will I find time to do them?" and she just laughed. I gave each of them one of a few quilts 3 of my aunts had given me years ago. I also run XPPro. I don't know what kind of interface Canon has, but with my HP printers, when I click File|Print it brings up a window with a button for "Preferences" where there is a tab for "Paper/Quality" and I make changes there. Although my defaults (in Control Panes) are set to "Draft" and "Black & White" (which works fine for most of the dreck I print), I always select "Color" and "Normal" for important stuff.

You might also check Start|Settings|Control Panel|Printers and Faxes| then *right* click the printer which is giving you fits and click "Properties". If you poke around in there, maybe you can find a setting which was changed.

Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir, maybe you already did all this stuff.

HTH,

Beverly
