Home for the winter

DH and I came home from Cape Cod 2 weeks earlier than originally planned. He decided he was having Grand children withdrawal and wanted to come home. I think that's really sweet and had no objections to leaving earlier than planned. Maybe that's because I had the same symptoms. To remedy it we are having one of our DGD's sleep over this Friday night. It also convinced both of us that when we decide to downsize it will not be to live on the Cape permanently. That will stay our fun place and winter living will be closer to where we are now.

While out there I worked on a quilted table runner. It was a combo of log cabin squares and applique (sp). The only thing I have left to do is quilt the border. I saved that for home because I didn't have a walking foot with me and I think it will make the job got faster and better.

I also took the class I wanted on making a sweatshirt into a quilted jacket. There were 4 of us in the class and it was a lot of fun. You take a sweatshirt, cut off the sleeve and bottom ribbing and then cut open the the shirt seams from the bottom right up threw the sleeves so it can be spread out pretty flat. You then start at the shoulder and arrange 4 inch squares of fabric down the sleeve. When your satisfied with the way it looks you put them down with a fabric glue stick and start sewing horizontally from the sleeve bottom to the shoulder. You stitch a row about every half inch. Then got to the other sleeve then the back and front. That's the general basics of it. If anyone wants complete directions let me know and I'll send them. You do a lot of sewing. One woman did hers on a child size shirt in red and white. Another used upholstery fabric samples in browns. The third used whites, and faded denim and mine was a combo of mottled colors and complimentary prints. It another thing that goes faster with a walking foot. I still have a lot of work to do, Not having the foot slowed me down. While I was getting some material at the store that had the class I saw a used machine for sale. It had the most intriguing sign on it. The sign said "experienced sewing machine for sale." I thought that was a great way to put it. Now I'm back to putting every thing away and I'm still catching up with laundry. No washing machine out there. Juno
