Converting zipper to snaps

Oct 28, 2003 2 Replies

Hey,all,

I am doing a lot of sewing for my kids (16 months and 4 years), including a lot of shirts. I find that most (if not all) shirts tend to have zippers for closures. I hate zippers with a passion. Well, that's not true. I hate sewing in zippers with a passion ;).

I would like to use snaps instead as clsures. And hints on how to convert a pattern to use snaps?

Thanks,

Cynthia

Perhaps you would need to extend the seam allowance a bit where the zipper normally would go. I recently made my first outfit for one of my boys (actually a costume), and used velcro . Have you considered using sew-in velcro for toddlers?

Sew in Velcro - the new type that does not pull and damage fabric (and skin) would be better for active kids. Snaps will not hold well on pressure points. Have you considered buttons?? Just my thoughts................... Sun
