Devoure technique

Dear Marie,
The fluid you're using contains sulfuric acid, to dissolve cellulosic fibers. The fabric you use for this technique is very important, because if you don't use a silk ground with a rayon or cotton pile, the technique either won't work or will give unsatisfactory results. Devore means devour, as the fluid "eats" the cellulosic fiber, while not harming the silk.
Stretching the fabric helps to get nice, clean results--but remember, whatever is under the fabric can't be cellulosic (cotton, wood, other plant-based fibers), or they will be destroyed. Make sure that you rinse the fabric thoroughly when your design is complete.
