computer journaling

For those of you that do a lot of computer journaling, I need some tips. :-) I'm in the process of doing this memory album for my parents for Christmas and I've decided to do all the journaling on the computer, or as much as possible. Does anyone have any tips for me? I'm usually a hand-journaler, but in this case, I want the nice look of computer journaling. What type of paper do you find you journal most with? Do you just use plain printer paper or what? I know cardstock will go through my printer, and I've gotten vellum to go through there, too. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I use a lot of vellum for computer journaling. I use special LaserJet vellum I get at the office supply store. It takes the ink better and has far less burry and smearing.

Hi Deb, I use vellum most of the time but I also use card stock or scraps of my scrapbooking paper - what over matches the color palette of the layout. I have also used transparencies.

Thanks Lynne! I'll have to go hunt some of that vellum down. :-)

Thanks Brandi. What kind of transparencies work best? I've never printed on transparencies before.

I'm not sure of the actual brand name. I bought them "by the sheet" at my LSS.

Thanks Brandi! That at least gives me a start. :-)

Transparencies seem to be the rage right now. At the expo they were selling printed transparencies for $4.99 a sheet. I saw one done up for Chanukah and thought I'll get it for a friend of mine, then saw the price for one single 12X12 transparency and thought I'd rather try and make one myself. They were very cool.

Hi Deb... I love computer scrapbooking, and most of my titles are computer generated. I like Kodak photo paper (glossy) and HP semi-gloss photo paper for making copies of photos. I have also used matt finish 32lb stock I ordered online because it is used for brochures, and I like the way it looks with both photos and titles. I use PrintMaster gold 10 and Scrapbook Factory for software. Quite by accident I discovered that if I used SF the photo would open larger than on PMG10, so depending what size photo I wanted and the use of it , that was what determined which program I would use. HTH..

It's just not my week. I went to print out some computer journaling yesterday only to remember that the black ink is out! And before you ask...no, I didn't save my journaling. :-( Can I go back to bed now?

Awwww, that sucks! But as they say, if that is the worst thing that happens, your still doing mighty fine! After all aren't we lucky we don't live in those two towns that had the tornadoes this week!

I've only done computer journaling in one book - and I used Vellum. I loved it! I would cut it (Very carefully!) with different scissor edges - but it worked really nicely.

Good luck with your album!

Oh sure, NOW you tell me! LOL I should know these things though, my Dad has worked with computers for 30+ years. You would think he would have taught me SOMETHING! LOL

The goods news is that it wasn't hours and hours of work. WHEW!

I did some computer journaling once with velum and tore the edges. Looked nice, too! Velum seems to be a popular choice for computer journaling.

A hint when out of black ink... Change the color of font to dark dark blue... you really can't tell the difference and you can still get the job done!!!

I started doing computer journaling this summer. I "test print" what I write onto regular paper. i have a laser printer. If the size and style makes the grade, I then take my piece of cardstock, vellum, or premade tags. Using a reposionable tape, I put the piece that I want the journaling on over the original printed out words so that I know where it prints at. I have had no problem and am happy with the results.

What kind of tape is repositionable? I use those little things with the blue peel-offs. I can reposition by slowly peeling them off, but is there a way that doesn't drive one crazy???

The repositionable tape that I found I like the best is a green and clear case by Tombo. The cartridge is refillabe and everyone sells it, including WalMart. Two of the cartridges run about $4 and the first thing is about $6.

The other one I use is a little blue and clear case made by Pioneer. I have only found it at LSS' and it is about $7 and not refilable.

The las thing I have tried and not real happy with is vellum tape by Scotch I think it was, maybe 3M. Anyhow I am not happy with it even for vellum because any you ge on the edge, well it leaves like a residue behind. The same when you remove something from it.

Finally Zyron makes little a refillable cartridge. However I can not find any of the repositionable tape for it. I use it A LOT with the permanent tape though. I tried it after my luck with the Herma dispensers most in here seem to like. I hated that one.

Hope this all helps!!
