DGD's Senior Prom dress

Happy, sad, and relieved all at once.

I really wish she had made it herself, but she's too busy. I wish she had asked me to make it, but time is now too short. :-}

However, she chose a beautiful RTW dress, here she is trying it on at the store:

I *will* be hemming it. I saw it today, nice quality poly chiffon lined with good satin. Both layers are narrow hemmed by SM. I'll have some scraps to practice which technique (serger rolled hem, SM narrow hem, or hand stitched rolled hem) I like best..

It seems well constructed, nicely boned in the bodice, etc. And all that beading... HAND SEWN!!! Yay!

If that doesn't make your heart skip a beat, nothing ever will. How beautiful. Polly

That's lovely, Beverly. It looks like she might even be able to get more than one wearing out of it, too.

Thanks.

I love it too, she chose well, IMHO. Still kind of wish I could have made one for her, I don't know if there will ever be a wedding gown. :-}

She shopped with an eye toward having a dress for performances and recitals, so I hope she will.

Her other choice, and I like it so much I'm going to gift it to her for graduation (and hope she can use it for performances and recitals, etc.) is this one:

Perhaps a little too sophisticated for HS prom, but honestly it fits like it was made for her, and she looks six feet tall (she just tops

5' 3") ! The nice thing about a non-strapless dress for performances is not having the worry of a wardrobe malfunction. We all remember what happened to Jenna Bush at her father's first inaugural ball, right? :-}

Beverly:

The dress is beautiful but made even more so by the lovely girl wearing it. I like the one you're gifting her as well--she'll get a lot of wear from both I'll wager.

I'll share, thanks.

I think they are both wonderful, each in its own way. The blue prom dress will be fun and she'll feel very special in it. The silvery one should serve for years (as long as she retains that figure).
