DGD's Little Black Dress

I didn't have much lead time on this project. I was asked on the 9th if I could make her a performance dress, we discussed style, and drew sketches, then shopped for fabric on the 11th. I pre-washed everything, merged three patterns and drafted a different neckline, made a bodice toile, had a fitting on the 16th, made some adjustments then cut the fabric and started sewing. Marked the hem on the 23rd. Machine stitched the satin hem, hand sewed the chiffon hem. The finished dress was delivered Thursday the 27th, DGD flew off to New York on Saturday.

Whew.

I have pictures of the dress on a dress form, I'll have to wait for pictures of it on her until she returns (unless she sends me images wearing it while she's gone).

DGD arrived on the Purchase College campus this morning, she appears today on the NYO web site, middle person upper left image:

Beverly, I didn't realize that she would be playing in my neck of the woods. SUNY purchase as the college is known in NY is just down the road apiece, about 60 miles south. I hope the weather improves for her. We have had so much rain, since yesterday, and from the look of the weather report it's not about to improve this week. Congratulations again to Blair, you and your family on her accomplishment. You must all be so proud of her. Juno

They are having a concert on Thursday, June 11, 7:00PM at the college.

Another one on the 13th at the Kennedy Center in D.C.

Their European concerts are sold out. I'm agonizing at not being able to attend. :-(

She was thrilled.

I'm afraid it (the fabric and style) was not a great choice for travel, but she'll figure that out. :-}
