Snow White dress is finished!

I finished the Snow White dress for my DGD and she has asked for a Belle dress next. It came out very nicely and has a 3 inch double hem for letting out when she needs the length. I've posted a photo of her trying on the dress when I was checking to see if the sleeves were a good fit. She wanted to wear the dress at that point so it was a couple more days before I could get the arm bands attached. The rib knit worked very nicely for the arm bands. The velcro at the back waist wants to come undone when she is very active so I may try something else there. (I thought velcro came is different strengths for different uses but I could only find one "sew on")

She loves the dress and even though her height (37 1/2 in.) matched the approx height listed on the pattern envelope I'm glad I checked and cut the fabric 4 inches shorter. I used another 6 inches for a hem and the pattern only called for a 2 inch hem. I've had other problems with Simplicity so I'm glad I've learned to check.

You did a fantastic job. You might think about adding a hook-and-eye at the waistline, her Mommy would only have to help her with it a few times. ;-} Beverly

Judie Cute. I am glad i took up sewing when i did... and DD came along when she did. I will be making such things for DD in the near future. I now have more excuses and interesting things to sew.

Girls seem to have more fun stuff to sew than the boys ( so far ) ?

Thanks, Beverly. And thanks for your suggestions when I was wondering how to proceed,

Thank you. It's fun to sew for kids and I've had fun making things for boys as well as for girls. One of the very first things I made was a monkey costume for my oldest son (who will be 46 in just a few months!). He loved that costume even though I used a bent coat hanger to stiffen the tail and it could have used a lot more padding on the end next to his poor little tush.

I forgot to add my part about the velcro worries ...

I have seen various strength velcros but not in the hopeful places like sew shops.

The places I recall seeing things like "Heavy Duty" velcro was in the hardware store such as the mega-big *depot* chain and the smaller chains like *ace* and i am pretty sure i have seen some at wally-world in the outdoors and sporting good section as well as the shrunken, reduced and meager "sewing aisle"

I think most had sticky backing though and would need some sort of goo-gone needle lubricant to sew through it if the sticky part was not sticky enough ?

I used a small patch of the "heavy duty" sticky stuff on a costume and i just tacked the outer (pulled on) edge to avoid the sticky needle and it worked

Very cute!! I love that expression on her face too. ;) "can you stop taking pictures now so I can go be a princess??" LOL

Good job, Judie. I know she will love that and enjoy it for a very long time.

Hi Kate, well, we haven't gotten along that that far w/ DS... as yet :)

I suppose i'll be patient for the boys projects to come. We have done a couple of small projects and some simple costumes though i keep trying to sell them on the more elaborate costumes (for the frill of it).

Honestly though , with the little sewing i get to do, i find some fun in *most* all my sewing projects.

I get to do lots, and there's a huge amount of fun in everything from the simplest bag to the most elaborate costume, from sharp suits and crazy catwalk couture to fairy wings and hot air balloons! :)

I don't do mending (except occasionally for the family) or alterations (unless it's stuff I have made).

Thanks! I tell her all the time that she is a beautiful child! And with the manners of a true princess. I adore two year olds. And three year olds. It seems just about every age and stage is my favorite. With 9 grandchildren it's a good thing I'm so crazy about them all.
