Needle hitting bottom of bobbin case

I own a Singer Inspiration sewing machine . model #4228.with a drop in bobbin case. While sewing a thick sweater the needle shaft jammed in the down position. I finally got it unjammed, but I can't sew because the needle hits the bottom of the bobbin case. If I take the needle out it runs just fine. But I can't sew on it because of the needle hitting the bottom of the bobbin case.

Did you put a new needle in the machine? If not, that probably is the problem. Barbara in SC

First put in a new needle the correct way and turn by hand to see if it still hits. If it does probably time for a trip to the repair ship as you most likely disturbed the hook to needle relationship, often called timing. More importantly is what caused that relationship to become altered. Could be a broken gear or something major or just a simple adjustment.
