Direction for turning hand wheel?

Here is a really "dumb" question from a person who has been sewingsince age 10 - Which is the proper way to hand turn the hand wheel ofthe sewing machine? Okay, you put your right hand on the wheel withthe thumb facing you and the little finger to the back. Now, do youturn the wheel clockwise with the thumb going over the top toward therear? Or do you turn the thumb down and under, counterclockwise? One of my machines seems to prefer the 'down and under'. I'm sure I'vealways sewn turning it clockwise. Maybe it likes 'down and under'because I have the bobbin threaded and put in the wrong direction.What do you use on your Viking, Kate?This makes me feel really silly. Joy's right...masking tape is nasty. I do collect sewing machines, and one of the hardest things to get off is the tape people put on the SM beds! Yuck. Collectable or not, tape deterioriates over time and falls apart..or, you (or the subsequent owner) may decide you don't like the tape there, .but the residue remains...and the residue will drag your fabric.=20

To remove masking tape from a sewing machine spray the area liberally with WD40 let it soak a while most of it will wipe right off. It it is real hard I use, very carefully with a fresh application of WD40 a single edge razor blade and gently scrape it up. Be careful not to gouge the finish.
