Dress Alert! (HELP!!!)

Help! I've got nothing to wear. And we've got tickets for the 100-year anniversary of the local painters' guild. And it's terribly posh, but I don't know if a cocktail dress will do or if it has to be an evening dress. ordering something is no option; a quick flip through all the mail order houses showed that the stuff is either to expensive (Anna Scholz) or too cheaply made and won't fit like I would want to anyway. However, I had planned to use this pattern:

(dress D and jacket A) and use a dark blue, very thin poplin with a strip of appliquéd tulips (sorts of) in various shades of beige and gold on one border (approx. 30 cm wide). Tulips to go bottom dress and bottom jacket. And the event is on 2. July. I don't know what to do... Or should I get this skirt:

and make from my recently used pattern a crinkle chiffon tunic with longer sleeves to go with it, and a cotton top under that? Arrgh! I'd never have thought that we would actually get tickets, else I would have attended to the problem much earlier. U.

I like option 2. the skirt and a tunic top. Dress but not over the top. I think it will be suitable for anything from cocktail to evening dress. In the meantime is there someone you can check with as to what is generally worn. A very pretty pair of sandals an a small purse with finish you off beautifully. IMHO. Juno

Certainly, no problem, that is, if you are about 5'10'' and weigh 140 kg with an A-B cup. Oh, and I don't ship, it's pick up only. ;-) (But seriously: Thank you for the compliment.)

Since you advise what my own mind recommends I only have to decide which chiffon from my stash I'll use. I must admit, I already ordered the skirt in question yesterday in two sizes, and if they don't look good or fit, I can send them back (which I hope won't happen). Last night I couldn't resist to surf for embroidered chiffon and got back to cheapfabrics.co.uk; I was no end sorry that I didn't buy some of the black stuff with the circles on it that they had when I was hunting for wedding dress fabric. It was the one of the most beautiful fabrics I have ever seen. (Grumble) But I have four or five chiffons at hand and will find something among them, I'm sure. Perhaps I'll scan of photograph them and then you can help me.
