embroidery machine tension

Hi-

This may be a really simple fix/question but I don't know much about sewing machine repairs/maintenance. I don't trust the place I bought my machine as I feel they'll say anything to get me to pay for repairs..

I have a Babylock Esante which I love and use for embroidery. Lately when I am using the fonts-such as when I am personalizing something-it seems that the tension is off. I have to set it all the way down to a

2.8 from the 4.0 tension default at times. This is happening suddenly- never had to adjust this before.

Is this something that can be fixed and is it expensive? Is this just a regular maintenance issue that can simply be adjusted during a tune- up?

I appreciate any help! Thanks so much :)

I don't know about the Esante, but many sewing/embroidery machines automagically reduce the tension when you switch from sewing to embroidery mode. 2.8 sounds about right, depending on the fabric, stabilizer and design.

It could be that some lint has become lodged under the bobbin tension spring. Try cleaning it with some unwaxed dental floss dipped in 99% rubbing alcohol.

Thanks for the advice.

I basically sew the same type of thing over and over and a 4.0 tension setting used to be just fine. Doesn't seem right to suddenly need as low as 2.8. I will try what you said with the bobbin tension spring. That very well could be it.

Thanks again--
