Highland dance results

DGD danced four dances, and she was awarded a first and three second places. I could not possibly be more thrilled. She looked darling in the new Nationals vest and skirt.

I noticed that the blue vest that goes with the borrowed kilt is getting *very* tight. I need to make a practice jacket anyway, so as soon as I return home I'm going to find blue velvet and make her a jacket to go with the blue kilt. Later on I'll make her a new kilt and jacket from scratch. ;-) She wants a green tartan and velvet.

Thanks! I'm even getting to like bagpipes, must be that 1/8 bit of Scottish I inherited from my Dad's side. ;-)

Wheee! DGD just called me, I was in error, she won TWO firsts (Flora and Highland Reel) and two seconds (Highland Fling and Sword Dance). And I got another virtual hug. ;-)

Please give her my congratulations! And you can take a bow with her for sewing the outfits. Emily

That's rather remarkable, isn't it? Unless there were only three girls in the competition....

There were four girls competing in four events (Flora, Fling, Sword, and Reel) at the Intermediate level. Sometimes a girl will touch a sword, or stumble, etc. and be disqualified. That has actually happened to my DGD in the past, so we always hold out collective breaths, especially during the sword dance. Today, she was really "on" and placed in all four dances. ;-) Last week in Seattle she won a first and three thirds and disqualified in the fifth event.

When she called me at 9:30, I told her all the folks in the online newsgroup were sending along their congratulations. She's very grateful. ;-)

Will do. she really appreciates all the newsgroup congrats I share with her.

Pics as soon as I can upload them.

Thanks! I struggled with this one, the pattern is not well drafted. I was never happy with the green vest I made, and completely re-drafted the pattern for this one. I finally downloaded the Wild Gingers demo. I am so used to working with commercial patterns which are properly graded and sized, that working from the (poorly drafted) patterns available for Highland Dance costumes was difficult.

Aha! Perhaps you should come up with your own line of patterns? Since you're doing all that work anyway.....

It's tempting. I don't know what the unfortunates who have to make their children's outfits based on this pattern do. It's truly wretched. No shaping, just instructions to "adjust for the wearer's measurements", truly awful instructions, etc. Think of the worst Big-Three pattern you have used, on steroids! Bah!

I agree. It would be a niche market, but that's a good thing. And if anyone could get it done, it would be you!
