Frustration note from AK in PA

Posted at her request:

Kay, Would you please post the following to alt.sewing for me? I can't anymore.

I can't get the ISP or browser program to allow me to post to the alt.sewing list. Twice, two nights in a row, I have logged into an browser to access alt.sewing, since I can't through my ISP anymore. After all the hoops I have to go through the last one is where I'm not getting through. I have to enter a security code. But all it's doing is putting up another security code and again and again....ad nauseum. I don't think saving $10/mo is worth it. I don't know how to get around these obstacles. Some have posted how they (Verizon) can't do it. Or someone said they didn't read in TOS that those who tried to access the bannished newsgroups would be denied access. Last night I had copied some sections of the announcements and then couldn't get through the security code again. So I don't know if I'll ever be back on alt.sewing.

Thanks Kay, AK in PA

AK, have you tried sewgirls.com? I dislike their interface, but at least it might give you access.

Yes, Virizon and Road Runner dropped all Usenet netsgroup access recently. I'm afraid you'll need to find another way to access newsgroups. I use Newsbin, which is a monthly service.

-Irene (who wonders if Virizon and Road Runner are going to give people a DISCOUNT for discontinuing a service they've automatically included in their fee for years)

Please tell AK to go to this web site

for freeusenet access, both reading and posting. She'll have to reconfigureher newsreader, but instructions are on that site.

i think Verizon only dropped alt & binary groups. i didn't know Road Runner was involved, but since they operate in NY it makes sense i suppose.

of course not. it gives them a much larger profit to show the shareholders. lee

We used to be with Newsguy for usenet access (our local upstream provides no usenet access) but they got flakey and expensive, so moved to "individual net", which costs 10 Euros a year, about $16 right now. It's worked very well for us -- comparing to the alt.sewing archives in groups.google.com, we get almost none of the trash and spam (I'd guess maybe

10 posts in the last year?) and I don't think we've missed anything of any importance.

were a little leary of using "click and buy", as it was not a payment program we were familiar with, but did not have trouble with it. Kay
