Good Source for Pants Material

I hope this is the right group to post this question.

I am trying to have a pair of pants made by a tailor, based on a pair of pants that I already own. The pants are no longer being made by the manufacturer. The tailor said they can make an exact match of the pants if they have a pair as a sample and I provide the material.

The pants are a rayon/polyester blend. The ratios are 65% rayon/ 35% polyester. I have seen this fabric in other pants, but can't get the right fit/drape from anything of the shelf (I'm very tall), which is why I want to have these pants made.

I went to the largest fabric store in my local area, but they didn't have anything that was even close. In addition, the person who helped me acted as if he never heard of such a material--he didn't offer to try to look it up in a catalogue or try to find it for me. I had this same experience at several other fabric stores as well--"if we don't have it, we can't get it."

If anyone has any ideas, or a good source to find this kind of material, it would be very much appreciated. Again, I know the fabric exists, as I find pants made from it occasionally (mainly golf pants). So you have to be able to get it SOMEwhere, right?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Phil

Exactly the right place...

This is fairly normal.

I can understand. My FIL has looooong legs, and makes his own trousers.

Ypou won't find it in a high street fabric store. You may not find the exact same fabric at all, but the best place to look is one of the places that buys up the remains of the run after the clothing factories have made what they want for the season. The factories need the space for making the next seasons stuff, so they sell off anything left and then we buy it from them... There's a lovely place hre in the UK that I get a lot of fabric that appears in Next, Marks & Spences, Daks, wherever...

Look for 'factory surplace fabrics'

Not sure what you have, but I have bought some gorgeous poly/rayon gabardine that drapes wonderfully from trimfabric.com at a great price that might be what you have in mind. If you email me for my home address, I'd be glad to mail you a little swatch so you can see if it's what you want before you order.
