ho ho ho sewing

Hey all,

I'm planning a Christmas present for DD. She wears hoodies a lot. Unfortunately, she's just about outgrown (don't ask me how she got so tall!!) most of her hoodies. She has one that still fits. So I figure Santa ought to bring her one or two. ;) I was looking at some hoodies online. All the kids are wearing really spiffy ones. lol Or at least hoodies with stuff on them. ;) The skull animal things, etc. I just couldn't find any that screamed out they needed to go to her. So I pondered. I can buy a hoodie for less than the fabric, ribbing and (especially!!!) the zipper will cost. Then why not gussy it up special for her?? I mean really!!

She likes Chinese and Japanese style dragons. So I thought it wouldn't be too hard to find a coloring page of one somewhere online. Then I could use that for a template like I did for the hummingbird I did for my sister several years ago. No problem right???

*sigh*

I can't find a decent sized dragon in a coloring book outline anywhere. Well, I can find some, but mostly they are European type dragons. Maybe I'm missing something??? Surely I must be. But I didn't find one in 2 1/2 hours this morning. Anyone seen anything like this anywhere online?? Help!!! (Please and thank you very much!)

Sharon are you doing machine embroidery or appliqué? I found these:

found them using the google search term "Chinese dragon graphic":

' know, it's weird after looking at the word "dragon" for a while, it begins to lose its meaning. ;-} HTH,

Dear Sharon,

I think the embellished hoodie is a great idea. Consider lining the hood in a contrasting silky-satiny fabric that picks up one of the main colors in your dragon design. A colored zipper might add a nice touch, too.

As to locating dragon graphics, try googling dragon tattoos. Some of those designs work well after being simplified by being run through a photo editor.

If you don't find anything that floats your boat send me an e-mail minus the "delete" and "this". I've got a bunch of dragon images on my hard drive. Most are european but there're a few oriental beasties as well.

Thanks Kathleen. I'm debating lining the entire hood or just doing a bias binding type thingy at the front edge. I think it's going to come down to seeing how "gaudy" the whole thing looks once I get the dragon on there. ;) She almost never puts the hood up. So if I line the entire hood, that might be too much on the back of the hoodie. Remains to be seen. ;) (just one more "design as I go" project. lol)

I saw A LOT of tattoos when I was surfing earlier. And a lot of the people they were on too!!! Oh my goodness. lol

Thanks so much for the help. I'm surfing through what Beverly posted and if those don't work, I will email you. I really appreciate it.

Sharon

Applique with some satin stitching over it. I don't have digitizing equip. for the embroidery machine. But that's fine. I've been good maybe Santa will think of that. ;)

Thank you SO much!!! Several of those on the draconian site ought to work fine. I will have to fool around with the image editor and see if I can enlarge them some, but they will be great. Don't know how I missed that site. I looked on google and ask.com both. I was looking only under images though, so maybe that was the problem. Who knows!!!

Thanks again. I really appreciate it. :)

Sharon

I've played with digitizing on the software for my embroidery machine and I can save in several formats. If this weren't so close to the holidays I would offer to take a stab at it for you. :-}

Oh, you've been VERY, VERY GOOD! Santa really *ought* to put that under your tree. ;-)

You're welcome!

Beverly

Oh, what the heck! The tree and decorations are up, and DGS is coming Sunday to help me put up the outside lights. All gifts are bought/made and almost wrapped, all I have left to do is clean the house and bake cookies!

Sharon, pick a design, tell me what size you want, how many color changes you prefer, and what format you need. Also, if you have a maximum stitch count for your machine. I'll take a stab at digitizing one for you.

(Sorry for the self-reply.)
