How to a zipper with pompom trimming

Hi!

I've installed zippers before on dec.pillows. However, I'm still new at sewing and do not know how to proceed. My guts tell me that I need to sew my trimming first and then the zipper. Ideally, my zipper would be along the edge of the pillow rather than on the back so I can still make it reversible...

Also, do I leave the same seam allowance than normal,etc.. No comment can be to detail-oriented, I need it!

Thanks so much for your help, Melanie Apollo Beach,FL

The edge of a pillow is a very awkward place to install a zipper, but it can be done. Sew that seam first, leaving an opening for the zipper. Baste the opening closed and install the zipper. Remove the basting stitches. Remember to open the zipper, at least part way, before sewing the other three sides. Such an installation precludes using trim around the edges of the pillow.

A better idea would be to use a fold-over closure instead of a zipper, and conceal the opening with embellishment, since you want the pillow to be reversible.
