I slipped in this delightful group without introduction because I saw so many friends from other places. Here's me. I go by Polly Esther. It's a silly name that I offered at one of those tedious baby shower games where we were supposed to suggest names for the baby. We live in a very remote area of Black Creek Swamp. Population 8,500 alligators and a few moonshiners. The gators are grand watchdogs and the moonshiners provide real spark to any occasion. I'm a minority. I weigh 100 pounds soaking wet. I've been stitching for almost 7 decades and mostly sew for needy premature babies. I enjoy your special sharing and expertise even if I pretty much know zero about plus sizes and am very limited in style fashion. Sewing for little guys who weigh 3 pounds is rewarding but just a little (!) different. Would you make room for me and pass the M & Ms if you will. I'd like to join you. Polly

Love that name!!!

I assume that is somewhere in the USA since you mention alligators?

LOL. I used to know about 'classic' style when I was in paid employment. Now I know naff all about any sort of style except cattle working, chook yard clearing, veggie garden styling.

Hello Polly. I'm Fran from a farm in Australia. I dont' do as much sewing as I'd like to do but I do have a sewing room and in there I hide my multiple old sewing machines and my other hobbies as well which include spinning (I have 3 wheels), weaving (only one small 4 shaft loom), bobbin Lace making (too many pillows, too many bobbins and too much thread in the stash but at least it only takes up a small space).

Hi Polly, it is good to see you over here at alt sewing. Polly usually hangs out at rec.crafts.textiles.quilting which is where we met! I think most of us are limited in style fashion and wear pretty much the same type clothing most of the time. If you hang around awhile, I think you will see a lot of familiar faces! Barbara in SC

Well hello! And welcome!

Come on in and make yourself at home. Park the gators in the moat round the back away from the polar bears, and join the fun!

Hi Polly! I know you :)

I've been on this group for years and years - even before RCTQ which I joined when I started to quilt - although I don't post much -- but then again for the past year or so I haven't done much possting anywhere due to health issues and usenet access issues! But now that I have my new mail reader and service set up and I'm getting back into it as I sure did miss it all when I was gone.

Your wit and expertise will sure be a welcome addition here :)

Mirjam, this is play on words, not uncommon over here. Say Polly and Esther quickly, running them together, and what you get is polyester - the fabric we love to hate (although it does have its uses in some applications).

Hi Polly--

Ok, I'm jealous! gators AND moonshine! and 100 lbs soaking wet!!

Fine! be that way

but welcome---and thank you for sewing for the little little ones.

which M & M's do you prefer!!

Betsey (plus size, NOT 100 lbs soaking wet, living in the pinelands of southern NJ, no gators, moonshiners somewhere, but rumours of pot growing in the woods???)

Weight control is a dirty, cruel conspiracy. I could eat until my jaws locked and never gain a pound. I could abandon exercise and never gain a pound. I am just living proof that diet and exercise are totally unrelated to size. So there. I have to carry a permit because of my sharp elbows; they have been declared lethal weapons. M & Ms? Never met one I didn't like. Just in case you need inspiration, that sweet Dr Rosenthal on Fox News Sunday insists that we just must eat dark chocolate every week to ward off depression. Love that man. Polly

I don't get here nearly as often as I might like but it's a wonderful place to spend a little time and there is so much good advice and so many helpful sewists here,
