My granddaughter's dress project

We had an additional three sessions over the long weekend, and almost finished the dress. DGD is going to apply the neckline trim herself. I have added pictures here:

Scroll about half-way down to "Day Three: for the new pictures if you have been following along. (Sorry, I failed to take pictures of the finished hidden zipper, but trust me if was very well done.)

I am very pleased with her growing skill level! ;-)

Wow, Project Runway, here we go!

I'm blown away by how great the dress looks Beverly, and the painstaking care the two of you put into it! Your DGD looks like she's enjoying every minute and that's a real a testiment to your teaching ability and her enthusiasm. Well done.

Thanks, shared with DGD. I suspect she may go that direction for her career. I am going to order some woven labels:

I am just SO green with envy; couldn't get our daughters or granddaughter to stitch anything but tent stakes. What a wonderful sharing, Grandma. Thank you for letting us journey with you. And ! since there will be lots of picture-taking; please share this with her. In my very young days I was a model. Just shoes, I had pretty feet. I learned a lot from the models who had 'real' bodies and observed that they always Always put their elbows out just a bit. It made their arms look pretty. Otherwise they flatten and smash. Your beautiful granddaughter is too young for her arms to look like the Easter ham but if she's going into fashion she might as well start learning to show off her creations (and herself) at their best. FWIW IMHO proud of you both, Polly

I was totally inept when it came to teaching my DDS, so I'm thrilled my DGD wants to learn and I've become a better teacher.

Thanks, my pleasure.

Umm, she want to *create* garments, not be a clothes hanger (AKA model). And I will not be sharing your "Easter ham" comment with her, I think young girls are subject to too much body image trash talk as it is. She is actually quite slim, she dances competitively and plays league soccer. While that picture is not especially flattering, her shape and size are perfect, IMHO.

The dress is absolutely gorgeous and so well sewn. Your journal reminds me of my teachings, not only to my daughters and nieces, and different friends over the years. I have very few photos, since there were no digital cameras in the 50s through the early 90s.

Thanks, Emily! Forwarded to my DGD.

Digital cameras have definitely made sharing pics easier, and I can take lots of shots because I don't have to pay for processing. I love it!

Oh my gosh!!!!!! What a fantastic job she is doing. And getting the waist band/bodice/skirt to all line up so perfectly across the zipper is no easy feat. She should be especially proud of herself for that one. Fit looks wonderful and she looked very proud of her work in the fitting picture. Tell her please, what a marvelous job she has done so far and ask her what's the next project. :)

I'm so glad for you that you are getting to pass this on to her, and you are both enjoying it so much!! I know you're proud, but no crying. ;) (says the pot to the kettle. lol)

YAY!!!!

When the zipper lined up perfectly across that band she conceded that occasionally the need for needle-and-thread basting is fully justified. ;-)

She looks tired to me. :-} That picture came a the end of a longish day of sewing, unpicking, sewing some more, etc. She really just wanted to be done for that day, but I wanted to get the picture.

Your message has been forwarded to her. What's next? Good question, I'll ask. ;-)

No crying yet, but no guarantees on the day she walks across the stage in that dress.

Thanks, Sharon. I am beyond thrilled to have such a willing and capable disciple.
