Need a machine with specific stitches

As I remember it, the motor burned out when the bearing seized. I think it's a sintered bearing. If you ever come across a motor & bearing combo that will fit the cub 8, let me know. I've been trying for years to get this little beauty working again.

Very often the gadget box forms part of the flatbed, and is made of plastic. When that breaks or goes walkabout, many folk won't buy what is in effect a free-arm only machine.

I agree with Mr. Thornton here. There is nothing in a motor that is not replaceable. Take it to a motor shop.

It sounds like you need to go to a motor engineer, a place that rewinds them and replaces the bearings. Definitely not a sewing machine repair place. The engineering shop will do whatever the motor needs, and should come in at under £50 in most cases. That wont include putting the motor back into the sewing machine. I could probably email you a company name if youre stuck.

Ah I see, not seen them like that before.

Yes, please! I made my wedding dress on this machine, as well as many other things, and it has sentimental value. Getting it going again would mean a lot to me.

I suffer from a whole school full of them! As the school bought the machines, and they have only ever lived in the school, goodness only knows what happened to the gadget box/flatbed bits, but they ain't with the machines, and they ain't in the store! Makes teaching kids to sew a doddle - NOT! The machines are well worn, and even for Berninas are reaching the end of their natural life (think 40 years haaaaard careless learner use, even though they get serviced every year!), but as yet the school can't raise the cash to re-tool.

It is still way better than the school with brand new HV machines on high benches with lab stools to sit at for machining, and so many pins everywhere that it was dangerous navigating the room, and so untidy it made my pre-Sunday clear-out conservatory look like a neatly filed office!
