Can anyone help? Have just bought my new kayak helmet and I need a teensy bit of 3mm neoprene to just pad out the back a little. Having a small head sucks! Anyone know where I can get a sample? Or does anyone have a bit knocking around that they would like to post to me? (black preferably!). I'm in the UK BTW.

I know this sounds a little odd but I have a small head size also and when I buy hats I take a small piece of weather striping and place it inside on the hat band. Much less expensive than buying neoprene!!

Some of the better quality weather stripping is neoprene. Any dive shop should be able to sell small bits for repairs. Glue with Aquaseal.

Go to a home improvement store, buy weather stripping , it already has the adhesive on the backside. I have used this on numerous western hats that I have spent over several hundred dollars a piece.

That's great, but I need to be able to Velcro the neoprene in so that I can remove it when I wear a skull cap under my helmet in the winter. What is Weather Stripping anyway? doesn't sound like it would be too comfortable next to my damp skin for a few hours!
Irritatingly I had a patch that came with my wetsuit but I can't find it. Why does my flat have to be in such a mess? No, don't answer that one!

Penny's probably already hooked you up by now, but if not I've got neo scraps in red, blue, neon yellow, green, purple and camo. I've also got some that's black nylon on one side, and black "loop" on the reverse (for attaching with to the hook part of velcro). E-mail me if interested.

You can stick the neoprene directly to the velcro. This is really easy if both are the pre-glued kind. Don't forget - the hook side goes on the neoprene and the loop side goes on the helmet.
What is
There are lots of different types at any home improvement store. Some of the better kinds are black neoprene - a closed-cell foam without nylon facing. Check carefully, as not all the black foam types are neoprene. It's normally used to line a door or window opening so that air can't get in when closed.
The only potential problem is that weather stipping foam is a bit softer than most neoprene used in wetsuits. You might want to use a bit thicker stuff as a result.
