Notches on a bodice pattern?

Hi Guys,

I'm doing pattern alterations for a fuller bust on this dress:

Unfortunately the bust point is not marked on the bodice. Am I correct in thinking that the notches at the armhole, side seam and empire seam indicate where the bust point would be? As in, if I extend a line parallel to the grain line up from the empire notch, and across the grain from the side seam notch, they would cross at the bust point? I seem to think that Fred Bloebaum said this during a tailoring workshop 2 decades ago but that might be some weird figment of my imagination. I get those sometimes...

Thx, Pora

Not necessarily. Often, all it means is that someone put a notch there. :-(

Armscye notches are just really just for the sleeve. And there are so many dresses out there with empire seams horribly misplaced (to my eye), I wouldn't trust that either.

Pin or sew a copy of the pattern together and look at the shape.
