Pattern size question

I was looking at a pattern yesterday and have a question.

pattern states a size medium as 38-40 yet when checking the measurement at the chest/bust line iit is given as 51.Am I wrong to see a discrepancy here? Just a newbie asking a dumb question...:)

Though the pattern description says 'semi-fitted', this is a loose fitting item and will have 8" or more (in larger sizes) ease built in. It's also 'uni-sex', which means that it is fitted to a bloke! They get more ease across the shoulders on stuff like this , so are bigger in the chest area too.

I find patterns like this are great for my hubby and son, but for me I prefer a more fitted style like this:
