PMB upgrade

Hi ladies,

Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading from PMB 2.0 to version 3.0? The cost for the new package from scratch is only five dollars more, but upgrading is 50 dollars - quite a hike. What changes have they made? I can't tell from looking at Wild Ginger's website, nor from Fitting Tips. I'm slightly reluctant to download the demo as it means ages online, and I'm on dial-up.

Would I be better putting the money towards Curves, if I can ever afford it? I'm looking for options such as changing the backs of garments easily, etc.

:) Trish

Oh, too bad you weren't asking this a month ago. They sneak peeks on their web site detailing all the new features. They have added new sleeve types, new neckline types, *back* neckline types, dart types, collar types, pant types, skirt types, etc. Maybe if you wrote them they would give you the list.

I can sympathize with being able to afford something new.

What are you currently doing by hand in PMB and would you want to do with Curves? Maybe that would help with making a recommendation.

Thanks Melinda

Actually, I changed my mind and downloaded yesterday - I'm on cheap rate because it's Sunday. I can see there are enough changes to make it worthwhile and the DH has once again stumped up. What a prince, huh?

Being able to change the back neckline was one thing I was interested in from Curves. I'm pleased to see that more customisable now in PMB. And I looked at sheaths, as I want to make some jumpers for winter - they've greatly increased the number of options there. And yes, front necklines, with the keyhole option, etc, wrap fronts, pleated insets - it looks like a pretty good upgrade to me.

So, version 3 here we come. But I do wish I'd known back in the summer that V3 was coming out so soon...

Are you getting it, BTW?

:) Trish.

It certainly sounds like it.

I guess that either it must have been somewhere else where I was saying that far back that they are coming out with a new version in the short-term future, or else you didn't read it. I've known since June.

Yup, because some of the new fitting things in there are going to save me time twiddling with stuff by hand, and I bought it so I could spend more time sewing because I wouldn't have to spend hours tweaking patterns to get them to fit.

And I believe they have a special upgrade price for REGISTERED users who bought the program since the announcement. But don't take my word for it!

Their upgrade prices are here:

and they have multiple ways to confirm your registration.

And you will have to write them to find out when the deadline was for the practically-free upgrade, because I don't remember what the cutoff date was.

I believe that if you purchased version 2 after June 30, 2003, you can get the upgrade for $15 (and/or the price of shipping). I bought mine in July and that is what I was told. I haven't ordered my upgrade yet since according to the web site you need to call them directly if you bought recently and I just haven't gotten around to it yet.. I would just e-mail them directly for more information if necessary. HTH Nancy

Thanks for all this info, ladies.

I emailed them about the discount but we bought just before the deadline, so I have to pay full price. Damn.

Oh well, it's only money... Not my money, either...

"Full price" for the upgrade is only $50 USD.

Yeah - I'll get enough use out of it to make it worthwhile.
