present for my DH

Our 20th wedding anniversary is the 21st. :) We are planning a large trip to a warm beach when the weather gets cold here. :) That will be our large present to each other. But I wanted to do something fun for him. I thought and thought. Then decided to do this:

I'm generally pleased with it. :) I prewashed all the dupioni. Made it Very soft to the touch. Really lovely hand. All of it is satin stitched applique except for the "Stuttgart" in the center. I used my embroidery machine for that. I already gave it to him since he won't be here on Wed. (He has to go out of town for work.) He was Very tickled with it. :) He was also very surprised. I told him this way there's one throw pillow on the bed that's not so "girly." lol

Been in the kitchen a lot lately. Apple butter, peach jam, pickled peppers. (not quite a peck, but close.) Red sauce from scratch to go with the eggplant from the garden. I've just about filled the deep freezer. I have eggplant parmesan, mashed eggplant with peas, ratatoullie, pesto, red sauce, and dried tomatoes in the freezer. Oh, and applesauce. About a gallon and a half of applesauce. The johnathon apples are in season right now, can you tell???? Lately, if I get out of the kitchen, it's a good day. LOL

That is fantastic, Sharon, well done! Mike will be thrilled, we all know how much he loves that car. Well, perhaps not *quite( as much as he loves you, but close. ;->

You left enough unsweetened to make Aplets, right? I think Andy and Anna would throw you off the deck if you didn't.

It'll pay off big time when you get all those home-prepared goodies in the winter. Sewing can wait, food preservation cannot.

lol Yeah, it's a close thing. ;) Thank you very much. It was a fun one to do. I have to admit getting around the antlers and the stallion was tricky!! But there was no cussing, so it wasn't too bad. ;) He really did like it a lot, and was very surprised too. :)

I don't sweeten any of it. I make it just like my friend, Beverly, told me to. :) And yes, there will be Aplets!! There would be a line of folks to throw me off the deck if I said I wasn't making any. LOL

Very true. Mike said the other night how nice it will be in January to pull out some eggplant parmesan and heat it up. :) Gotta make hay while the sun shines. ;) I've been through a bushel and a half of apples, and a bushel of peaches. Used the last few apples this morning to make fried apples for the guys for breakfast. Andy looked at me and said "Go buy more apples!!! Make more fried apples!!!!!!!!" lol So I think those were a hit. I mean, it was before 7:30 AM and he was speaking more than one word at a time -- not grunting at all!! This was a miracle!!

I'm thinking this weekend, when everyone is home, I will roast a pork loin and do fried apples to go with.

One of the most difficult tasks in making a surprise for a family member is keeping it our of sight until the event. Good on you for accomplishing that.

I never sweeten any of it either, one can always add a little sugar after it's defrosted. I love applesauce with braised pork loins.

There you go! Sounds yummy.

Oh yeah. Fried apples are easy peasy. You want to use fairly tart apples. I like Johnathon apples, Granny Smith also work well. Peel, core and slice into 1/4" - 1/2" thick slices. (or, if you have one, just run through the hand crank peeler/corer/slicer.) Saute in a little butter or margarine (you're not deep frying, so just enough they don't stick to the pan) till they start to soften. Sprinkle with enough brown sugar to cover, make it look like the crumb topping on a muffin. Reduce heat to medium low, cover the pan and let simmer till the brown sugar melts. Viola!

Well this hasn't been too bad, unfortunately. He's been on a "temporary" assignment in Vicksburg, MS since the end of April. There for a while he was only coming home every other weekend. (which was not fun at all.) Now, the newly hired person is in place and he is just helping with the transition. So he leaves on Monday morning and gets home Friday afternoon. We think he's in his last two weeks of that. Then we will shift back to our "normal" routine of him gone M-F one week, home for a week. That will give him a chance to catch up with his other 14 facilities. Yeah, it makes me tired too. lol

Oh, and I printed a sign that I taped to the outside of the sewing room door that looks like this:

Just the road sign not the t-shirt. lol (extra funny because that's part of the sig line he uses on the Porsche forum. Right below the description of his car. LOL)

When I pack it in Andy's lunch box, he gets mobbed by one of his friends. She tries to swipe it about every day. Sometimes he lets her. (he is 15, and she is cute. lol) It's a hit with everyone. Thank you for telling me how to make it. I never knew it was that simple!! :)

It really does. I keep reminding myself how many days it is till Saturday when I can fix that. LOL I think I may do the sausage/mushroom stuffing too. I get the split loins. So I can fill them with whatever stuffing, etc, tie together and roast. And maybe some green beans from the garden. Sharon

Water has dropped, looking for a product that contains micro ban to clean everything. I have to search around or order it on line. I know I can get it on line. Don't really want to start cleaning just have more water come in.It's a battle. On top of that the week is full of appointments for me and Bill has golf scheduled every day from Wed-Friday. The weekend is being spent with oldest DD to celebrate her DD's 22nd birthday. Cleaning can wait for that. give us date for dinner and we'll be sure to let the cleaning wait a little longer. Juno

Almost forgot to tell you that I'm making another batch of yogurt in the crockpot today.

I make it about once a week. It's good stuff. Juno

:) You have to remember the time difference. I sent that this morning while I was drinking my first cup of coffee. I'm on central time and you're on Pacific right? So it's 10:00 here now, so that makes it 8:00 at your house right? School days, I'm up at 5:00 so I have time to read my email, drink my coffee, generally get myself awake and moving before I have to start dragging a boy out of bed. lol And it gives me time to do things like make fried apples for breakfast. ;)

Gorgeous day here today too!! Only in the 70's, sunny, light breeze. Woot!!!

Yes, sigh, I thought of that as I was crawling into bed. It was a loooong day yesterday, once I got started working on my site there was no logical stopping point. If I break my train of thought I have to go back three steps to recover. :-]

Most days I'm awake about 8-9:00 AM. After an all-nighter, I sleep until at least 10:00.

Must be country-wide, it's sunny and nice here as well. The forecast says we are going to have a short Indian Summer this week, then fall officially sets in.
