Very OT Sad wildlife story.

A few weeks ago I told you about training a robin to feed out of my hand. It took a lot of patience and standing out side. I finally got him to come to me.

However I missed him for a few days, the worms in the special feeder were not being taken.

Then neighbour said to me have you seen your robin lately and I said no. Then he proceeded to tell that he and another neighbour was talking on the back. Down swooped a big hawk and snatched my robin from the tree. He crushed him in his sharp talons and flew off with him leaving red feathers fluttering to the ground.

I feel as if I have lost a friend. Shirley

You have. So sorry Shirley.

I'm thinking about The Little Prince, and the fox he tamed.

Who knows maybe they will. I had a pair coming and they took a vast amount of mealy worms. Then only one was coming the one I got to eat from hand. Maybe that blinking hawk got the other also. Their red feathers would attract it. I shall leave the feeder there with some special soft robin food in. But the worms do not keep and I had to let the bigger birds have a feast. Shirley

Oh, Shirley!! :( That's so sad! Let's hope the Robin died quickly with no pain. Sometimes nature is hard. ((((((((((hugs))))))))))

With the cold weather the birds are returning to the feeder. When the robins come in Spring they always bully the other birds. I like all the birds, even the silly grey jays.
