Princess dress

I finished it for my 7 year old to wear to a wedding in 2 weeks. It's the hardest thing I've ever made - it has a fitted bodice (with the spaghetti straps I had to use the chopsticks to turn the right way round), a very gathered skirt, a sheer overskirt and a ruffle on the lining. And I had enough material left over to make a shawl. Whilst some things aren't 100% perfect (this is only the second zip I've ever done) I have to admit it looks pretty good and the not good bits are well hidden by the overskirt. Most important of all, it fits well and my daughter thinks she looks like a princess in it and loves it. Now we can go on holiday to the snow (it's winter in Australia) tomorrow without the sewing machine. Then when we get back we move to our new apartment and I get a sewing room - I'll have to find more projects to do.

Congratulations on having the tenacity to complete the dress. I know most young girls love having something made just for them, especially frilly skirts and ruffles. Enjoy your holiday and have fun creating your own sewing room in the new apartment. Would you like us to send you a list of possible projects to begin after you're settled? Just joking. Emily

First up I need to make a cape for when I cut my husbands hair (he doesn't have much so it's not the world's most onerous task!). I have an old quilt cover which I can use. That should be simple. Then my daughter wants some more pants, like the ones I made earlier in the year. She also wants a sarong made of the material left over from the princess dress. So far, quite a few things to test my new sewing table - when I've had time to choose it!
