Replaced the hook gear set-no problem with setting the hook timing. Also replaced the timing belt and have not been able to get the needle L C R adjustments along with the stich width right. Have a service manual which I got on-line, but I am getting nowhere. Need to know what to adjust first, etc.

Do you have a "SINGER*" service manual for 750 series ? or some other type of service manual ?
I find the singer service manuals a bit cryptic but they have all the info you would need. The only advice i can give is do not skip anything that seems unimportant and when the instructions say something like "Check or recheck XYZ adjustment on page ##" then that translates to do not bother with the current adjustment until that adjustment is correct.
The other thing i found is it is best to just start from the begining with singer service manuals and work through it unless you know the adjustments backwards and forwards and already know which adjustments affect others.
for your machine troubles you pretty much do something like ...
timing mark on it )
etc....

Sounds like you either got the cam stack in wrong, as the eccentric was not marked and is off, or a bind in the cam follower.
