Small Commercial Embroidery Machines vs Domestic

Was wondering if there was any huge difference in terms of build and stitch quality between the small commercial embroidery machines like the Melco Stellar or Star, versus say the TOL or MOL machines sold for home use such as by Brother or Janome. Are the commercial machines easier or more difficult to get on with?

TIA

While I don't have any experience with commercial machines, I just wanted to say that Janome will be releasing a 4 needle semi-commercial machine very soon......heard it on the grapevine, LOL. Not sure if this helps or hinders your decision.

Hmm, interesting, very interesting.

Aren't Janome embroidery machines made by Brother? I merely require information as the Brother versions are usually less expensive than their Janome cousins.

Will keep an eye out, thank you for the heads up.

I know Janome make embroidery machines for several other manufacturers, but as far as I'm aware Brother do not make Janome.

Here is the message re the new releases......

All sounds very exciting, doesn't it? I've guessed for a while that the

300E would be upgraded.

Commercial machines do embroidery, just embroidery. If that is all you want to do then with the 12 or I guess I should say multiple needle heads you do not have to change threads at each color change a huge time saver. These are also more apt to rattle along all day for many years as opposed to the expected intermittent use of a domestic machine However if you want a machine that does regular sewing also the domestic would be the better choice.

Not hardly.

No; it's the other way around. Janome makes Brother high-end machines (and Sears/Kenmore high-end machines, too)

I thought Janome was a very quality manufacturer. Why then do we see so many Singer and Brother refurbished machines on the web?

Singer and Brother both sell badged machines. They buy the different ones from different manufacturers. They don't buy all their machines from the same place, and quality is dictated by price: you want a cheap machine with lots of features, you can get someone to make it for you, but it won't be as reliable as the ones you buy in for the top end of your range from the quality manufacturers. The machines may work well enough for their price, but you'll also get a lot more 'Friday specials' being returned because the quality control on the factory lines isn't as rigorous as with the TOTL machines.
