Threads on Carpet

When a carpet style goes out of production, the carpet dealer sells nicely-bound, doormat-sized samples really cheap. When I sew by hand in the living room, I have one of these samples by my chair -- it's easy to hit with dropped threads, and it holds them firmly until I carry the mat outside and give it a few whaps on a garden bench.

The carpet samples also grab threads off feet that have been tracking them around. (The samples are all grabbier than the living-room carpet, which has the lowest, flattest, hardest, tightest loop pile available.)
