Just a little something to get us off the pet peeve gripe session.(Don't get me going on that thread, I haven't contributed, as the listis TOO long. We could go on forever.) Tia Mary got me thinking about this. I used to vary the old (Non-PCChinese reproduction) joke that, if all the unfinished projects in thesewing world were laid end-to-end, how many times would they circle theearth? Mine would go round at least once, especially if shred them intostrips in a fit of temper first. I am interested in how many other types of handwork you do, and whattype of projects? What do you consider your main thrust? Needlework,with a wee bit of dressmaking on the side? Counted cross-stitch?Quilting? What is your favorite, and why? My list: Sewing: anything and everything, prefer to learn newskills/techniques constantly, will try anything at least once.Alteration work; upholstery, shade/drapery/soft furnishings. This workis all about speed, quality and getting paid. Oh--and rescuing oldpieces of furniture. I seem to have a chair fetish. Personal problem. ;) Embroidery (love handwork--it is--what was the term another post used?You can muse, let your mind wander. Hand quilting likewise. I like machine embroidery and machine quilting for the speed andinstant gratification. Tried knitting (got up to using a circular needle), didn't stick toit; and crochet; think I might pick up it up again when I'm 100 yo. Cross stitch seems too simplistic; give me, instead, somethingdifficult which I can never, ever, finish and I'm happier. Perverse,but, there ya go, that's me. Crafts-all sorts of stuff to fill a perceived need: from Christmasornaments to...whatever--doll stuff for GDDS, weird things from leftoverspools, you know the drill. OK, let's see......Counted cross stitch - did it for several years, until the RA ended it and afew others.crochet - still do a little (I've been working on the same purse for 2years, nowknitting - tried it, failed miserablyhand embroidery - MIL tried teaching me a Japanese form using an instrumentthat kind of punched through the material and you had to keep the loop onthe bottom. It's still sitting around somewhere.Machine embroidery - started it when I got my Viking Rose last Christmas,lots of fun, and I enjoy the looks I get when something I embellished isgiven.Hair sticks - bought a ton of "stuff" to make them, and did actually make 15or 20 - everybody loved them, nobody wanted to BUY one.Macramé - I can't do the large projects anymore, but still enjoy the littleones.Sewing is my favorite, but I've only started seriously sewing in the lastyear - there was a 20+ stretch when I didn't sew at all. I still haven'tmade myself anything, and I'm slowly working my way up in difficulty. ...

May I join, please? DH refers to me as (with tongue in cheek) "A mine of useless information". Amazing how often he turns to me first for info, before checking the internet or the public library. What's more, 9 times out of 10 I can give him the answer!!

is her website and she nomally has her catalog on it. In her published catalog, she has all transcripts, which are booklets detailing the particular show, and videos of each show for sale. I have never ordered a video, though sometimes I do tape the show, but I order any transcript I think I might be interested in trying the project one day. There are probably 200+ in my closet and I have used many of them. At the moment, I don't remember the # of this one, but you could probably send her an e-mail and find out. The clerks seem to respond to questions fairly rapidly, compared to many companies. I have been buying from her since the mid-80s, but have no affiliation with the company other than being a very satified customer. If you aren't successful in finding it through her web site, I will look for mine after Thanksgiving. Emily

Thanks Sandy. I never thought of it, but I can see how efficient that would be. Right now, I've been interfacing a few pieces at a time but I would hardly call that production line assembly... I'll look into the cost of one.

Absolutely! I never did wedding dresses, but I did prom dresses and those were like Bridezillas x 100 because they had smaller budgets but still wanted the Austrian crystals and the $20/yard lace trim-but they only wanted to spend $100 (including labor).
