Zipper repair?

Yesterday, I found a snazzy fine jacket for everyday wear. How snazzy? Well, its price tag began at $ 400. I got it for $ 40. My kind of bargain. However . . . the zipper slider thing - quite a designer accent ( not that I ever saw one before or needed one so fancy) was found in a pocket. There doesn't seem to be any way to get it 'on track'. I suspect that I'm going to need adult supervision. Have any of you had any sort of success with what's sold as a zipper repair kit? Failing that, whom do I ask for help? Maybe our drycleaner 'if' they have an alteration stitcher. The jacket is black and I just don't see well enough to attempt replacing it myself. Any suggestions? ( other than zipping up a jacket when trying it on) ? Polly

If the slider you have is not actually broken, you may be able to work it back on. Remove the top "stop" and try to work the slider down the teeth.

Oh my. Oh my goodness, Beverly. Wow. I just can not yell 'thank you' enough. It's late, the jacket is black and I am tired - but I am just sure that I can 'get it together' or some one around that's younger can watch the fine Youtube that you so wonderfully showed and help me. Thank you, THank you. Lots of WOW. And, as an aside, in case you're wondering what an everyday black jacket that costs $400 looks like, well.... this find is lined in leopard printed silk. It's a hoot. Here on the MS/AL Gulf Coast, it supposed to snow on Monday. Thanks to you, we'll be ready. Or - maybe we'll just be safe and take pictures from the window. Polly

You're welcome. I have used zipperstop.com several times and have always been happy with their service. If you discover that the existing slide is damaged, they have parts. They can also build you a complete new zipper the exact length you need.

A young friend came by this evening. She has good sense and good eyes so I showed her the YouTube guy and she slipped the zipper together on the first shot. YeeHa! Thank you so much, Beverly. Polly

I'm happy for you that it worked out! Be sure you take a look at the top "stop", it may be a little too small which would allow the slider to zip off the track again. You can fix it with parts from zipperstop.com or perhaps just use needle and thread to make a larger bar over the existing stop.
