I am seeking a source for very inexpensive parachute 'silk'. I am not real particular as to color, more seeking inexpensive artificial fiber 'silk' for near water tight tent walls.

Modern parachutes are largely made from silicone coated ripstop nylon, which works for your application, as well. I've bought from here:

I'm guessing you wantsilicone treated ripstop nylon, but I'd still put a rainfly over it.
