charge for turnings

Well the subject is difficult we are all diferent in the way we do things IM from peru here is no turning exept for spindle turning bowls vessels boxes etc no body will buy it the only peaple that buys my stuff are tourist and ussually they know what they buy the prices here are very low considering that there are no turning tools I have to import them from USA at 300%duty my lathe cost me 5 times what youll pay in the usa what makes me mad from this peaple they try to tell me that back home they can get the same bowl (exotic wood 14x6)for a cuple of bucks usually they offer for my vessels US 5.00 you know what I tell them today I had a client to buy some vessels from me I took him to the web to show him some prices he was shock now he knows he was ripping me off so he just pay the price I have set like I said is dificult to say how much to charge ED

Your best bet would be to sell on the internet. You vessels will then earn there true international value and not be cheapened by some tourists looking for a bargain.

Another option is to offer a couple of levels of your work. Take local wood, turn some rough bowls and then offer that to those who want the $5 bowls. Next to that you'll have the same bowl but sanded and finished. That costs more. Then finaly you'll have your top work which will hopefully receive the price you would like.

As far as the prices you paid for starting up, I feel your pain. I live in Israel and while it's 300% more it's a lot more than the US. It's even worse because I used to live in the US. iIt might not be so badif I didn't know better. =O)
