Das Lathe Bench - Up and Running

Das Lathe Bench finally has its very own shop space and the JET mini/midi (I think it's a midi, the mini is the smaller pen turning model) has been firmly attached and up and running. More clearance above it may be needed, time will tell. May need to add a duplex outlet closer to it - but that's easy since my electrical is all surface mounted conduit and boxes - very easy to modify.

Note to anyone making a new shop or converting existing space to a shop: 1. sheath the walls in 1/2" minimum, 3/4" preferred ply or OSB. That way you can hang anything anywhere rahter than searching for studs.

  1. SURFACE MOUNT YOU"RE ELECTRCAL You will rearrange things over time, either because the way you work changes or you've acquired a new machine. Put a surface mounted breaker box in and surface mount conduit to where ever you need outlets. OH - and go with quad outlets rather than duplex outlets. Like clamps, you can never have too many outlets.

Roughing 3-4" diameter branch sections that used to make the lathe dance now don't. Still have a mini-log to try. Can always add more weight to the side "boxes" if necessary. It's handy having the option of easily taking this puppy apart if modificiations are necessary.

Now to put the shop back together, some semi-major rearranging was required to create space for this turning station and tools are scattered all over hell. I have a table for my electric kiln to finish

Hi Charlie

Looking good, and don't worry so much about that other wood working stuff, you'll have that all covered in dust and to be finished turning stock pretty soon anyway,

For the electrical need, thats why I have the power bar under the back off my setup, one switch and all is on or off.

As for the flex light you are looking for, see the link, that what you want ???
