Here is a web site which does in-depth reviews (I suspect from more of a professional photography standpoint) of cameras
I used them several months back to select a Canon G-3 and if you can find one (the G-5 supercedes it), on a shelf somewhere, you would very likely get it for a good price.
I am very happy with the G-3 and have found that it makes producing the photos of my work necessary for a catalog much easier not to mention much more efficient.

I concur with George, I too researched the site linked above and got a good overview of the products available and the many comments therein. Following lenghty research I purchased the Canon A70, and am quite pleased with the results. I also know of five other people who've gone with Canon digital cameras and theyve all been delighted with the product. Hope this is of some help Rob
