Pricing of work

I probably am on the high side for any pricing that I give. There's no sense in working for nothing, unless you have a complex or something.

I can't think of any lidded box that isn't worth $100-$150, and I charge around $200 for mine (the plain ones). Some people aren't happy unless they are spending a bunch, so don't be shy. A good segmented vase or bowl can easily go for $1000, so don't be cheap.

I am producing some eccentric lidded boxes like those made by Remi Verchot, that have elicited interest from a gallery and while I am not efficient in producing them the quality is good. I therefore cannot price them based on an hourly rate. Any suggestions in establishing a pricing method would be helpful, even a place to get comparables. I have searched the net and prices are all over the place.

Thanks

Paul

Make them $200.00 each.

Hows that sound.

If it sounds too low - double it. If it sounds too high - half it.

Probably ask _way_ the heck more than you would think. Some gallery goers may balk at the 'investment value' if the price is too low. I'm sure this kind of precision advice is why prices are all over the place :-)

Bruce, Looking at your fine website, I noticed some of the "back" links on individual pieces point to your local hard drive instead of http. So far I've only looked at the conventional turnings section, and not all of them are mis-linked. Just a heads-up for you--there are some fine pieces there!
