I *might* be able to do a demo this coming weekend at a local shop and have the whole camera system setup there in order to take some pictures of it for you. It's a good, lightweight but yet strong system that breaks down easily. Very flexible in it's uses too. It's not nearly as cheap as just a broomstick but it's well worth it.

If you sink a 1/2" EMT conduit in a 1 gal paint bucket full of cement, then attach a second piece as a boom using a clamping block to force the boom to a specific angle, that might work. Attach the camera with tie straps, velco or other simple mounting system.
I am assuming you are talking about those little cameras - not a regular camcorder.
