I had an 8691 and used it heavily for a year.

Its OK for small turnings of about 6 inches. The motor is weak which I think is the statement that could be made for all the 1/2 HP grizzly lathes. It just really isn't 1/2 HP.

I was looking at the Jet mini before I was given the grizzly. For the money I would buy a mini non variable speed and you would have a solid lathe that does what it is advertised to do.

Grizzly's two largest wood lathes have an odd spindle thread (1x12). Could make finding faceplates, chucks, and other accessories tough.

Max
