FINALLY got a place to live, with a room to turn in. What if any insurance does anyone recommend? Does anyone carry crafters insurance or home based business ins and if so, any suggestions where to get mine? Since I will still be on the road a lot, worried about my tools all alone! Also, any ideas otr suggestions on setting up shop till I build the new outbuilding I will be thankfull for!Thnx in advance -- and thnx for all the great info I get here! greg soon to be of Linden {what did i do hope they have electricity!} TN

My standard homeowners covers my tools and detached shop/garage - BUT, if I was selling my work for income then I'd specifically need a business policy. My homeowners specifically excludes losses for income producing property. (I'm not sure where the line in the sand is for when one goes from the occassional hobby sell to being in business, but for now I'm not even close.)
BTW for a homeowner, it's not a bad idea to have as complete an inventory of your tools *and* materials as possible just in case of a loss. Those sticks of cocobolo and ebony and those chunks of maple burl have value.
A loooonnnggg time ago, I had Traveler's Insurance covering my studio and location photography business. It was a basic policy with listed propery coverage. Got it through an independent agent. Wasn't too bad financially, but certainly not something I'd buy if I weren't attempting to earn an income from an activity.
