latest project - kaleidoscope

Been busy in the shop getting ready for Christmas. I made a kaleidoscope, just because I thought I could. Gonna give it to a family friend, a young woman who may need to unwind a little, from time to time. She is a lab tech, slicing and prepping lab samples for an area hospital. Looking at slabs and bits of diseased body parts all day, I thought maybe she could look at something else once in awhile. The body of the 'scope is 20 segments of hard maple and white ash. The eyepiece is figured gum, and I do not know for sure what the end piece is, for the color cell. FWIW, the cell is filled with mineral oil and odd bits of glass and whatever else I had around the house. It has 3 mirrors in a 30-60-90 triangle configuration, using garden variety second surface mirrors. For best effect first surface mirrors should be used

- but I didn't have nay on hand at the time, and did not want to do my experimenting on pricey stuff like that. Still looks pretty good inside, so I claim the experiment is a success.
