I just got through helping a friend hook up the Leeson motor on his new dust collection system. The motor is 2 HP, and physically resembles the ones on Nova 3000 lathes. The interesting part is that his motor comes with instructions for running it on a range of voltages, and either single phase or 3 phase (the terminal box on the motor has a whole bunch of numbered wires.)
I wonder whether the Leeson motors on Nova lathes are similarly configured, and, if so, does that provide an option for converting to three-phase, variable speed, without the bother of changing motors?
Since I don't use this lathe, it is mainly of academic interest to me, but I thought some of you Nova owners might want to look into this. I have to confess that, until today, I did not even know that motors could be constructed with that much flexibility.
