Packard woodworks multi jaw chuck

Has anyone has any experrience with the imported Mini grip chucks sold by packard? The set that comes with 3 sets of jaws for 89 bucks. I'm considreing one of these, as the budget is somewhat strained at the moment. Any imput would be appreciated.

I've seen it in the catalog and it looks similar to the Penn State small chuck. I bought that one for similar reasons a couple years ago. It's too small to make a good boat anchor, and not good for much else either.

Save your money until you can buy a decent scroll chuck. You're about halfway there now, which is better than starting from scratch if you buy this one.

Vince, I bought one a few weeks ago. I got it from Penn State and it was ten dollars less. It is too small. I didn't realize how small it is until I got it in my hand. It is a PIA as far as using two bars to tighten up the work. I had to replace one of the metric screws that hold the jaws on because the threads were stripped. I had to get a new allen type wrench because the one that came with it stripped the hex shape off after a turn or two. Save up and get a Oneway or one like it. My dad always told me when you buy the best you only cry once. Why don't I listen? Bob PS Send my your address off line and I'll send it to you for the cost of the shipping.

Thanks for the advice. It pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I was taught to buy good quality too. I just hate paying more for a chuck than I did for my old delta lathe itself. . Guess its time to bite the bullet though
