Pen Kit Parts

I am somewhat new to this pen turning and have managed to screw up a cigar pen. Where can I get pen parts such as the twist mechanism fir the cigar pen.

Steve, As far as I know, pen parts don't come "open stock". You have to buy the whole kit. The exception is brass barrels. They are available from some pen suppliers. That said, if all you need is to extract the parts from the wood and brass you can buy disassembly tools from Packard or Penn State. Basically they include a metal ram bar and a nosecone-type block. You use the ram bar to knock out the parts with a hammer. I have one and they work fine.

I was able to buy a package of those plastic snap-cones that go inside the fountain and roller-ball pens. At Woodcraft (at least one), I was able to get replacement parts to correct a screw-up. They break up pen kits to fix a problem, and then keep the rest of the parts in a box against future needs. In one case the problem was caused by faulty instructions. In another, it was my own fault, but they did not charge me for either.

I was able to buy a pack of five 7mm twist mechanisms at WoodCraft. I too screwed up a pen and had to buy more. :(
