Reporting a negative result with alcohol drying.(for fun only)

I posted this separate thread so as not to make light of an important subject. I hope this is one small step for a woodturner and one giant step for Woodturning and worthy of being added to the long dusty march of drying science as it warps ever onward toward a crack & split free world.

I weighed 165 lbs. before an alcohol soak last night. I mixed 2 1/2 oz. gin with 1/2 oz. very dry vermouth as a stabilizing agent. Then I immersed this drying agent in ice and stirred vigorously. An olive on a toothpick was added to speed up the drying process. I soaked overnight and this morning I weighed _167 lbs! In my haste to publish, I forgot to weigh the toothpick. The olive had less than 0.04% pimiento contaminant.

Probably not scientific because I forgot about Lori's antipasto followed by 2 links of mild Italian sausage with mushrooms and green peppers on a large plate of homemade pasta. I also presoaked myself with olive oil (cold pressed by 72 virgins) and sea salt and forgot to take my diuretic.

In summary then, I did not lose weight and I may not be dry, but I should be well preserved. I can't do a double blind study with controls for two reasons: No other turner is as ugly as I, and I don't mess around with wood alcohol. Yep, this is probably just another pretty anecdote and as always, your soak may vary.

Arch:

Thanks for the laugh. It's been a long day and I might just have to replicate part of your experiment (for strictly scientific purposes, of course).

Well, there's your problem Arch- you're supposed to turn yourself a shaker for that method.

Flawed approach Arch. It's a well known fact to dry out people they have to "turn" to "AA"................

Hi Steven, Hope today is shorter than yesterday. Please post your results with statistical analysis. :)

Prometheus, The way my turnings look is why I took up the method. :) (noneofmybusiness, but I'm unbound to ask . Do you have a shorter nickname?)

Hey Tony, Be careful, your method has gotten students expelled. BTW, how are the classes going for you older guys? :)

Mike, I often "turn" to the 'AA ' with the added 'W', but sometimes it can be a little too dry. :)

Ya but, you do have to use the alcohol first, I think

A nickname? Nope. But my actual name is Jesse- I've just found that it's better to be anonymus on some groups on Usenet. This one stays pretty civil and (for lack of a better word) "safe". Also, being a woodworker for a living, it's best not to risk irritating the boss or clients- you never know who is lurking.

So, if you remember it, you can use my name, or just shorten it up to P. I'm sure I can figure it out. :)
