Selling Woodturnning

Hello everybody,

I have been doing woodturning for a while now as a hoppy. I used to give it away to family and friends. So far they love it. I was looking to sell some of the things that I turn. I appreciate if you can give me some suggestions or idea on where and how I can do that.

Thanks for the help.

Hello Tamer,

This has been discussed a number of times on this group in the past. You should be able to fine a lot of information by searching the archives for the newsgroup. Go to , I think that will still get you to the Google search area. Select Advanced Search, or something like that, and you'll be at a new page with lots of places to enter information. Enter "selling woodturnings" in the subject, "rec.crafts.woodturning," in the forum area and select Google Search. Read what comes up and then try again with a slight variation in your subject. With a little luck, you can find all of the posts.

You'll find that most people who sell their woodturnings are a bit reluctant to give out to much information on how to do it. This is especially true when it comes to pricing your work. Nobody wants to be undersold, but they are a bit reluctant to tell you what things are actually selling for on the market.

You'll also note that the group in general would rather answer questions about how you take a bowl off the glue block or questions like Aren't there any American made Turning Tools?

Good luck with your search.

I have seen quite a few wood turnings for sale on Ebay. I don't know how successful they are though. As long as you stick a reserver price on it you should be OK

But have you seen what they have been getting for the turning - £2.49 for a mushroom - £4.99 for three mushrooms. Any fool can work for nothing!

I sell most of my work at Jewelry shops of all places. I think they call them shoppes tho'. If you get into a high end place, you can figure on a 30 percent shelf fee. I won't pay more than that. I also sell a few things at a high end florist shop, but thats for yard stuff.

2 good shops in different towns will keep you hopping. I sell at one in Texas and the other in Missouri, seems to work for me. It keeps me in wood and machinery money.

eBay is a poor idea. I bought a plenty of handmade pens for $0.01 for resale at the local flea market.

I personally don't sell woodturnings on EBay, because, I value my time too much to sell them at half price, I do sell videos and decals and have found it a good way to reach an audience I would not noramally have contact with....... But, don't expect to get rich, because the idea behind it is for the buyer to save money.... Being basically cheap, I shop EBay all the time and it is incredable what can be gotten for about half price........ Cheer ....... Ken.......
