Stuck insert on Stronghold chuck.

I have to change the insert on this chuck to use it on another lathe. Any old tricks to get it out? It's in there good. :) JB

Hello Jeff,

Take the two screws out of the insert that hold it into the chuck and screw them into the other two holes in the insert. As you tighten them down, they will push the insert out of the chuck. You will note that one set of holes is threaded and one set is not. You clamp the insert into the chuck with the two holes with no threads and remove it with the two holes with threads.

A) I am assuming you moved the allen-head screws to the other holes in the taperlock to push it out. If not give it a try. B) Try the heat/cool routine. Warm the body to something reasonable like

200F, set it upside down and put an ice cube on the insert. Every ten seconds or so see if the insert is loose enough to pop out. C) Buy another chuck, it's always great to have more than one....

Good luck, David

Heating it and putting ice on the insert did the trick. That let the screws push it out. Thanks, JB
