talon chuck insert

Hi All, I recently purchased a talon chuck. The insert for the spindle adaptor does not seat entirely in the chuck, sitting proud about 1/8 of an inch. Is this normal? The screws were missing with the purchase so I haven't been able to fully assemble it yet. The sales people at the store are not sure if that is the way that the insert should behave. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Yes, the adaptors do sit proud from the base of the body, not much, but a little.

The adaptor is tapered, so in order for it to work, it has to be a bit proud. On the other hand the threaded part has to fit snugly against the spindle in order to register properly.

Hi John

I have the stronghold, which is basically the talon's big brother. The adaptor does stand about 1/8 of an inch proud of the chuck, and the chuck also has a similar width collar rabbetted on the inside of the case on the same plane. Just perfect for snapping in an 1/8 inch thick clear plastic disk to keep the dust out of the mechanism, an item some people consider a shortcoming of all Oneway chucks. It almost appears as if this is the intent of the setup, although the company never mentions it anywhere. Looks neat and works gerat.
